Thanks to generous donations, the Newark Print Shop is equipped to facilitate many different kinds of fine art printmaking techniques. In addition to the equipment listed below, access to the studio also includes the use of a small supply of oil and water based inks, fabric inks, brayers, tools for engraving and more. The flat surfaces of the studio are covered in transparent glass and plexiglass, which allows for maximum creative space and easier clean up. Newark Print Shop also has a selection of silkscreen frames available for temporary in shop use.
Print Shop patrons have access to our spacious dark room, fully equipped with the necessary equipment to develop and enlarg film into photographs.
The Newark Print Shop is home to a customized and homemade exposure unit that can accommodate very large silkscreen, and other photographic processes. The unit is perfect for exposing images onto silkscreens. The unit itself has been experience-tested and exposure times are always posted on the wall for studio use. The studio also has a small Thermofax machine (not pictured) for the creation of small, disposable silkscreen exposures. Thermofax screens can be purchased by the foot in-studio.
Our Showcard Proof Press makes creating typographic prints incredibly simple. Our facilities house both lead and wooden type in a variety of weights and sizes.
The 24″ Conrad Etching press is available for use in a myriad of printmaking techniques. The pressure is completely user controlled to guarantee the perfect image effects for each individual project, including monoprint, linoleum relief, woodcuts, drypoint, and etchings.
A clean studio is a happy studio, and the Newark Print Shop’s spacious spray booth keeps messes to a minimum. The hooded spray booth is equipped with a hand-held hose for small-time cleanup. The shop also has a pressurized power washer, specialized in reclaiming silk screens and powering through extra tough messes.
The multilayered and spacious drying racks allow for any work made in the studio to dry flat. The studio also has a hand-held heat gun, to expedite the drying process as needed for fabric screen printing projects.
Our Epson large format printer print images larger than standard Letter size. Please call ahead for access to the large-format printer during Print Club nights.
